Black Forest Trifle
Serves 4-6
Sweeten up Christmas Day with this rich, festive trifle that puts a modern twist on a classic Black Forest dessert.
Ingredients
2 packets Gluten Freedom Spiced Fruit Muffins
1 × 1kg carton vanilla custard
1 jar Morello cherries (reserve the juice)
1 block dark chocolate, broken into pieces
300ml fresh cream
Fresh cherries, to decorate
Method
Break the dark chocolate into pieces and melt in the microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each until smooth.
Gently warm the vanilla custard and stir through the melted chocolate until well combined.
Cut the spiced fruit muffins into chunky squares.
Begin layering your trifle:
First layer: Muffin pieces
Second layer: Drizzle with reserved cherry juice
Third layer: Chocolate custard
Fourth layer: Morello cherries
Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
Whip the fresh cream to soft peaks and spread generously over the top.
Finish with fresh cherries for a festive flourish.
